Angers
8:13am
Watching CNN .. something about robots, and how there's total confidence that they'll be integral to human life in the near future, just as much as mobile phones are now. Why am I not heartened by this?
9:20
"Mum-mee, Dad-dee .."
"Har-ree, don't stamp ever so loudly .."
Oh lordy, the English are in town, as dim-witted Har-ree continues to thump his way up the stairs. What did you expect, Mum-mee and Dad-dee, if ya raise 'em on a diet of fat and grease and poptarts for breakfast, this is what you get.

9:52am But, according to 'Samedi Annonces', La Colline a Des Yeux, the remake of the Wes Craven movie (The Hills Have Eyes) is a complete dud. It does have a rather wonderful poster though .. |

2:06pm
Sitting somewhere on the grass between the Chateau et le River, although there's a fairly road road between here and there. Oh well.

Visited l'Musee de Beau Arts .. was good .. there's been an Angers here for an incredibly long time, at least as far back as it being once a Roman town - then the Art collection, from all the centuries, although the C20th seems to temporary .. there's Fragonard and Manet .. and religious paintings and Mary's and Jesus's, and I would have bought the postcard of the painting of JC's circumcision if it had been in the gift shop .. loads of mythology, Hector's Body and Priam Dying and the Judgement of Paris and Aphrodite. The best though, was the glimpse of tattoo, a heart, behind the black bra strap of one of the attendants who had the unfortunate job of standing guard in two galleries, with only me to watch. I'd have liked a postcard of her tattoo as well.
this is Portrait de Laura Leroux |

Then to the David d'Angers Gallery, in a converted Abbaye, I think .. and lordy, so much work .. he must have been banging out sculptures day and night .. the famous Europeans, the Asians, and Americans, the huge statues of the Famous French, and the small ..

3:57pm
The Janette Repussard exhibition, accidentally stumbled on, and it actually makes the Belgrave Stockade Art Gallery gallery look good. Tres bôite de chocolat .. and perhaps Janette Repussard has a slight case of the clap, like Gauguin, that makes her see everything in intense colours, like Gauguin.
Wanders .. basically in search of a bar and eventually finding one near the Chateau .. should've known, with the tourists and all. And it should be raining .. it's muggy, sweaty, windy, thundery, but it's all just noise and no action at the moment.
and now the tinkle-tinkle of le petite train, carting around more tourists not ashamed to admit they're dickheads, or perhaps they are yet to acknowledge and embrace their dickheadedness.
4:12pm
Still here, and the California Girls are drooling over the ice-creams, meanwhile, there's a guy at the counter who's mound of eaten shellfish is enormous, moules, on both plates .. then when he'd finished the two piled plates, disappeared into the kitchen, re-emerging with more.
a little later
Brainless wanders .. antique shops, book shops, basically, whatever's going .. love these dolls though ..

7:05pm
And it's Australia vs Brazil in the World Cup .. live, on the TV ..
7:07pm
And fuck, after seven minutes, the Brazilians have their first goal.
7:50pm
Shite, they just got another one, 2-0.
7:52pm
Well, that sucked. Big Time.
8:03pm
The Hotel de la Universe Cafe, and so I guess I can get back to the usual of not giving a single shite about soccer. Wog Ball.
a little later, same place.
But, no, I'm not saying anything to the Bresilian supporter who just rocked up at the next table, absolutely full of joyous glee. The Poofter.

9:49pm And that just about wraps it up for Angers, didn't find the t-shirt of my dreams, I Love Angers, but no matter. The Art Galleries were good, could've stayed in the Beau Arts a good while longer, and I only know of a handful of the 'Famous' people Davis d'Angers sculpted, the Chateau was great, loved the Apocalypse Tapestries, and listening to an Guide with her heavy French accent explaining the concept of the Whore of Babylon ..and the Bleeding Skies and the Lakes of Fire . |

Last Drinks, while reading Conrad's Heart of Darkness, and the trip up the river ..
