Instinctively, Pete Quentin threw the fighter into a blood-draining turn and pushed to throttles wide open.
Savagely he hauled on the control column, so that the Mosquito's nose was down below the unseen horizon which was out there somewhere in the crazily-spinning world.
Fighting the foggy mists bordering on a blackout, he saw the heated, orange lines of tracer leaping out at him from the darness...

The odds were against Tinker Squadron...

Low cloud, poor visibility and the heavy enemy protection made this operation particularly hazardous. But the German convoy had to be destroyed and, as the Me-109's closed in, the Australian pilot saw his chance to attack.
It was a chance he had to take-even though he was disobeying orders!
