The Busselton Aero Club had its beginnings in 1963 ,when a group of enthusiasts decided that they would like to share their love of flying with others. During the early years, the club disbanded several times, but the phoenix rose from the ashes.

However, in 1996 long time local pilots Ian Stevenson and Neville Hyder decided to form the club. Unfortunately, the club had no instructor or even an aircraft to call its own. Luckily, a retired farmer, Peter Hales who owned an aircraft offered his services. He, in company with Dick Jackson, a retired airline pilot and instructor decided to approach the Royal Aero Club of WA for approval to operate under its licence. Fortunately John Douglas, the manager of the RAC agreed to this proposal and the BAC was on its way.

Membership rose rapidly and soon with the assistance of debentures from several club members, the clubhouse was built. It featured panoramic views of the aerodrome, offices, briefing rooms and a well equipped kitchen. This attracted membership quickly and today it reaches over 100 members.
